What is zorbing and what types do we offer?
Zorbing is among the popular outdoor sports and is used either as a standalone activity or as part of events for adults and children. This sought-after attraction will surely entertain you and attract visitors to your event. So, if you’re unsure how to entertain people, don’t hesitate to choose one of the many types of zorbing. In the following lines, we’ll introduce the types of zorbing and its origin, which will certainly make your decision easier.
The origin and rules of zorbing
This mildly adrenaline-fueled sport originated in New Zealand when its creators, Dwan van der Sluis and Andrew Akers, introduced it in 1995. The idea of the large inflatable sphere was born purely by chance, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s work, particularly the drawing of a man with outstretched arms.
It all revolves around the so-called zorb, which is a large inflatable plastic sphere with a smaller one inside, connected by smaller ropes. The principle is to climb inside and roll down a hill or across water. The sphere has a diameter of approximately 3.2 meters and weighs 90 kg. You don’t need to worry, as the sphere is made of thermoplastic polyurethane, which is flexible and won’t burst. If it gets punctured (which happens minimally), the zorb will slowly deflate, posing no danger. The construction is designed to absorb all impacts.
Zorbing also has its rules. Firstly, experienced operators must be present, as you cannot control the movement of the sphere from inside in most cases. The hill should have a maximum slope of 20°, and there should be a counter-slope or barrier at the bottom to gradually stop the sphere. In the case of water zorbing, the sphere is attached to a rope so that operators can pull you back at any time. Another condition is your weight, which should not exceed 95 kg, and the minimum height is 140 cm. Pregnant women and people with heart conditions are not allowed to zorb.
Types of zorbing
The most well-known and oldest type of zorbing is done on land, involving rolling the sphere down a hill. The hill should be properly secured, and there should be a counter-slope or barrier at the bottom. Zorbing can also be done on snowy hills. It is necessary to strap yourself in and hold onto handles inside the sphere.
Another type is called aquazorbing, where the sphere floats on the water’s surface. The spheres are either released onto ponds or other bodies of water, and you can either try to stay on your feet by pedaling inside or lie down and let the current carry you, enjoying the cooling effect of the water. Of course, the sphere is attached to a rope so that organizers can pull you back to shore. Large inflatable pools with water are also used at various events, where the zorb moves around, or there is a cylinder with holes on the sides that can accommodate multiple people.
For a group of people, zorb football is the most suitable option
Currently, the most popular variant of zorbing is bubble football. This attraction is offered for rent by the Happy Times agency, which organizes events for both children and adults.
